Setting and Managing Your Coaching Goals
- Why are coaching goals important?
Your coaching goals are the foundation of your growth and development during your coaching journey. They may be personal goals you've chosen yourself or ones set as part of a wider company programme. Either way, they help shape your focus and track your progress over time.
- How do I set my goals before my first session?
Before your first coaching session, take a moment to visit the Goals section. This is where you'll begin selecting the areas you'd like to develop. Having your goals in place before your session helps you and your coach start with clear direction.
- How do I choose my goals?
Click ‘Add Goal’ to browse and select from a list of available development areas.
Each goal includes a clear description so you can understand its purpose and how it relates to your personal or professional growth.
Depending on your programme, some goals may be pre-set or mandatory.
- How do I rate my goals?
After choosing your goals, take a moment to reflect on:
- Where you are now
- Where you’d like to be
You’ll then rate your current level and set a development target for each goal.
The initial rating cannot be the maximum score of 10. If you've already mastered this goal, please select a different one, or lower the rating if selecting a new goal isn't an option.
- What happens after I’ve selected and rated my goals?
Once you're happy with your choices and ratings, simply submit your goals. This gets the ball rolling and prepares you for a more focused first coaching session.
- What should I expect in my first session with my coach, regarding my goals?
During your initial session, you’ll review your goals in detail with your coach. This conversation helps ensure your goals align with your broader development objectives and gives your coach insights into how best to support you.
- Can I change my goals later on?
You can adjust or reset your goals at any time, up until they are locked.
To make changes:
- Click ‘Reset Your Goals’
- Confirm your choice in the pop-up window
- Enter your new goals and update your ratings
- What is the final goal rating?
At the end of your coaching journey, you’ll be asked to rate your progress against your original goals.
This final reflection helps you:
- Celebrate your achievements
- See how far you’ve come
- Capture valuable insights for future development
