Tips for Fixing Video Call Issues

Most video problems have a quick fix. Work through these in order and you will resolve the issue in most cases.

Use Google Chrome and reload the page. Chrome is the most reliable browser for video calls on the platform. If you are not already using it, download it at google.com/chrome. Once you are in Chrome, reload the video page using the reload icon in the browser.

Restart your browser fully. Do not just close the tab. Quit the browser entirely and reopen it. On a Mac, make sure you select Quit rather than just closing the window, otherwise the application keeps running in the background.

Close any other applications using your camera or microphone. Zoom, Skype, Teams, and similar tools can lock your camera or microphone so nothing else can access them. Close those applications and restart Chrome before trying again.

Check your camera and microphone permissions. If you see a message asking you to unblock your camera or microphone, or if the other person cannot see or hear you, you will need to grant browser permissions. Follow these instructions to do that.

Seeing "No Cam / No Mic"? This usually means your operating system is not communicating properly with the browser. Try rebooting your computer or switching to a different browser to see if that resolves it.

Reboot your computer. If nothing else has worked, a full restart often clears hidden issues without needing to dig any deeper.

A few extra tips worth knowing

If you are using an external camera or microphone, make sure the correct device is selected. On the video screen, click More, then Camera/Mic Settings, and choose the right device from the list.

If your video or audio feels laggy, mute your camera to free up bandwidth. You can also switch to audio-only using  Shh Mode for a smoother call.

Using earbuds or a headset makes a noticeable difference to sound quality and helps eliminate echo for both you and your coach.

If you dialled in by phone and are stuck on hold, you may have entered the wrong meeting code. Hang up and dial in again carefully.
